Finding Serial Number Tags on MerCruiser Engines and Drives
Engine Serial Number:
The serial number tag can typically be found in one of the following locations:

Near the starter, adjacent to the flywheel housing.

On the rocker arm cover or flame arrestor assembly.
Transom Plate Serial Number:
Check these areas for the transom plate tag:

The inner transom plate (inside the boat).

The upper swivel pin.
Sterndrive Serial Number (Independent of Engine):
For sterndrive identification, locate the serial number on:

The upper drive shaft housing (usually on the starboard side).
-
Alternatively, it may be on the rear housing surface.
