Finding Serial Number Tags on MerCruiser Engines and Drives

Engine Serial Number:
The serial number tag can typically be found in one of the following locations:

• Near the starter, adjacent to the flywheel housing.

• On the rocker arm cover or flame arrestor assembly.

Transom Plate Serial Number:
Check these areas for the transom plate tag:

• The inner transom plate (inside the boat).

• The upper swivel pin.

Sterndrive Serial Number (Independent of Engine):
For sterndrive identification, locate the serial number on:

• The upper drive shaft housing (usually on the starboard side).

• Alternatively, it may be on the rear housing surface.
